My Favorite Movies: A Trip to the Moon (1902) - Director: George Meliés Trip to the Moon, in French Le Voyage dans la Lune, is a French film of 1902, black and white, silent and science fiction directed by Georges Méliès ; s written with his brother Gaston Méliès. It is based on two literary novels, which are: From the Earth to the Moon, by Jules Verne and The First Men in the Moon, by Herbert George Wells. Le Voyage dans la Lune is a currently popular film and film criticism is recognized as the most important creations films of Georges Méliès. The image of the face of the moon to receive the impact of a rocket fired by a cannon ball, is one of the most famous planes in the history of cinema.
Méliès tried commercially distribute the film in the U.S., but technicians who worked for Thomas Edison's film managed to make copies and distributed them throughout the country. Although it was a success in that country, Méliès never received money their exploitation.
The image of the face of the moon has been imitated many times in popular culture in two music videos, for example, in the Queen video "Heaven for Everyone" and in the video for The Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight."
